Scrapbook choice is one of the most important and serious steps in the scrapbooking art. You have a lot of great creative ideas. Scrapbook must be suitable for your project perfectly and it’s the most expensive purchase. Choosing the right  album requires careful preparation. At first, write the list of demands to the album. In addition to the price think about style and design of album, especially can you find later replacements or additional layouts in such style. Also will it look good and  stylish in your bookcase. You must think and about it will hold all pages you have and it will durable and easy to use.

 The average price of the album begins  from 10-15 dollars and increased to near or above one hundred dollars. The main advantages of big albums are:

- Possibility to use 3-5 photos on a page

- More space for photos, embellishments and journaling

- Ability to hold 50 or more layouts

- Very convenient to scrap family chronology.

But there are reasons to think:

- Layouts are quite difficulty to scan and color copy

- Make sure your bookcase has just enough space for storage this scrapbook

So, the main kinds of albums are:

1. Album “on the screws” (post-bound album) – are used for fastening metal screws (2 or 3), which firmly hold the pages between the covers.

- Fixation with three screws are very reliable

- Finished pages easily inserted and removed from the protectors

- The screws can be expanded as you add to your album pages and protectors

2. Album folder on rings (usually at the 3-rings) (three-ring binder / notebook album) -album is folder with the ferrules, fastened to the rootlet of from within cover, i.e., in the essence usual folder, but with more attractive and aesthetic cover.

Advantages:

- Easy to add and remove pages

- The cover is usually made larger than the page that provides better preservation of content

- Finished pages easily inserted and removed from the protectors

- The construction of many rootlets implies the existence of a transparent pocket for a card with a description of the contents of the album

- Metal rings make the album even the more durable.

Also frequently they are albums on rings, without the rootlet.In such albums of ring it is, as a rule, easy to substitute.

It’s also possible fastening by chains and by ribbons. 3. Album-book (strap / hinge album) – fastening album as in the book binding -pages are connected by several clips, are strengthened

 by the pasted rootlet and dense cover. Advantages:

- Dense pages with the reinforced corners

- Allows you to reveal the album cover in a way that the pages lie perfectly flat for a better perception

4. Album on the helix (spiral-bound album) – the cover and inside pages are hole-punched, the connection takes place through a metal or plastic coil.

Advantages:

- Albums is easy and convenient to use as a gift and to scrap thematic mini-album

- The price of the album is a little

- Cover is made from durable thick cardboard

5. Album on the clip (stapled-spine album) – album looks like the notebooks or thin book with a soft cover with a paper clip middle of the cover, on the counterfoil. Often, these albums have extra tape on the cover.

Advantages:

- The cheapest albums, often presented in a mini-format

- Cover is often made of thin cardboard, easy to decorate

- Ideal for the album as a gift

- It requires little time, because usually has the small quantity of pages

In addition to the different types of bindings  albums can be classified on a number of other signs – on the cover material, color pages, ready for processing – albums of all forms are represented in scrapbooking.

Of course, to understand what albums you fit best, comfortable, stylish, durable, can only in practice. But I believe if you have a good ideas, scrapbook itself will choose you!

Now that the children are out of school for the summer, you are wondering what to do to keep them occupied. There are many activities that can keep their attention but scrapbooking is a great hobby to get them interested in. While they are having fun they will also be learning about family and their ancestors, vacation places you have been to and special occasions celebrated by your family.

If your child is younger, you will have to do the cutting of the pictures, cutting the matting for the pictures and small embellishments may need to be eliminated all together. If your children are a little older and know how to work with scissors and cutting tools safely, then let them do the creation of their scrapbooking projects on their own.

Scrapbooking with your children:

* They can learn about their heritage and their ancestors. You can join in with them and tell them all about who the people are in the pictures; your mother and father, grandparents, aunts and uncles and even pictures of when they were small.

* Using different scrapbook layouts that you provide for them to look at, they can use them as a guide or they will learn to be creative and express themselves choosing to make their own page layouts.

* Encourage them to draw around the pictures on the page or add their own embellishments. See what their interpretation of the pictures are and what they feel about the pictures they see.

* Scrapbooking together will give both you and your children memories you can look back on and remember. Take pictures of each other during your scrapbooking sessions with each other for scrapbooking at another time.

* Putting together scrapbook pages of vacations that you have taken as a family will also teach them of family values and togetherness and you can add a subtle history lesson in the process.

* Journaling is an important part of scrapbooking. Let the children compose the journaling box for the scrapbook page. Of course if they are smaller and don’t know how to write yet, write the journaling box for them, but let it be their words you write. If the pictures are of ancestors, you should write a separate journaling box with the information about the people in the picture but also include your child’s words too.

* When the scrapbooking time is over, take advantage of this time to stress the importance of putting away the supplies you have worked with so they can be easily found the next time. Make certain that any sharp tools or cutting instruments are put up high and hidden out of the younger children’s reach. They may think if they were able to be around the tools and use them once, then they can use them on their own any time. Make it clear to them that they are not to attempt to use any of the tools without your supervision.

Enjoy this special time with your children because they do grow up so fast. Think of the wonderful memories you will have created on a summer afternoon just to keep them busy.

One thing about these memorable events is that it should be able to be evocative of something remarkable, or something you think it is impossible to live without. This is why we talk of themes in the process of making scrapbooks. You may fail to come up with a theme for your scrapbook. The Birth of a Child

This should be something good for you. Keep in mind that being able to be pregnant and actually putting forth that baby is something wonderful, and something which every person will want to experience over and over again. As a homeschooling mom of 4 girls, scrapbooking for kids has been on my mind alot lately. Let me back up a bit. My 4 year old was quietly playing one day with a roll of stickers. Afraid I was going to later find a bunch of stickers caught in the carpet, I asked her what she intended to do with them. She pondered for awhile and then said, “I am going to put them in a scrapbook. Mom, can I have my own scrapbook?” For some reason, this caught me by surprise, as I thought how wonderful of an experience this could be! So, I started thinking about it more and have come up with some tips and ideas to share with you on scrapbooking for kids.

First of all, I will admit, I am cheap! I wasn’t sure how excited I would be at the thought of my 4 year old and her sisters cutting up my beautiful papers and glueing everything down in sight! I immediately thought of our local dollar store. They have albums that would be perfect for showcasing their creations in for the time being. The dollar store also offers scrapbooking supplies in the form of kits, stickers and embellishments. We have a reward system in place, where the girls can earn a trip to the dollar store to purchase their own scrapbooking supplies to do with as they please. This alleviates the desire to “mess” with my stash while instilling a sense of responsiblity to earn thier reward!

Here are a few more cost saving tips:

*Have too many pictures to scrap? Let the kids scrap the leftovers.

*When developing photos, get double prints. Let the kids scrap with the doubles.

*When you complete a project, put the leftovers and unused scraps in a container for them to use. They can create their own embellishments with the scraps. You will be amazed at what they can create!

One thing I do want to mention, when you scrap for the first time with your children, be prepared to help and guide them. Don’t expect to get much done on your own pages until they start to get a feel for what they want to do and accomplish in their own scrapbooks. Now that they are ready to scrap, what should they scrap? Here are a few kid layout ideas:

*Have them scrap a page all about their favorite things at that particular age. (then repeat it for each year and see how their favorites have changed or stayed the same)

*Have your kids scrap about their favorite activities or s

porting events they are involved in. I’m sure you have plenty of photos!

*Turn it into a learning experience and have them interview the subject of the photo. This would be great for older generations.

*If there aren’t enough photos, have them draw pictures of people. Then watch how their drawings progress. Each one of my girls have a specific style of how they draw family members. It is interesting and fun to look at.

What about incorporating their artwork and creations? I am very blessed to get cards, pictures and artwork on an almost daily basis from my girls. But what do you do with all of them? Here are a few ideas:

*Hang on the refrigerator for all to see. Then once the fridge is full, take a picture of your child in front of their artwork and scrap the photo. You can also incorporate their artwork into the layout.

*Color copy and reduce the drawings/projects and use as photos in your layout or as embellishments.

*Are you near the end of a roll of film? Use up those last couple of shots of your child’s artwork.

*Use pocket pages to “hold” your child’s artwork.

*Create a “brag” book and give to grandparents or other family members as a special gift!

Even though I can be anal at times, I still want to incorporate my girls work into my scrapbooks as well. Afterall, they aren’t really my scrapbooks but for all to enjoy! Here are a few more ideas:

*Use child’s drawings as a background paper.

*Use their creations as embellishments. You’ll be amazed at what they can create with some paper, scissors and adhesive!

*Interview them. Ask them questions about the photo, layout, their mood. This would make for some awesome journaling!
